3 Great ways to use Matcha

MatchaBlogMatcha, also known as Matcha Powder, is very high in antioxidants since it contains the whole green tea leaf. Hand picked at the perfect moment, green tea leaves are dried and then finely ground to create a bright green powder. Although it is commonly blended with hot water and drunk as tea, Matcha is so fine, it can easily be blended with other foods.

Here are a few ideas:

1. Matcha Smoothie

Add a quarter teaspoon of Matcha powder to any smoothie before blending. The Green Teahouse makes a smoothie that combines Matcha, banana, and kale. It’s simply delicious.

2. Matcha Ice Cream

Did you know you can make non-dairy, vegan “ice cream” with frozen bananas and Matcha? Choose Raw has great step by step directions here. Or if you want something with a bit more protein you can mix Matcha in with your morning yogurt.

3. Matcha Pancakes/ Bread

We can’t take credit for this unique Matcha pancake recipe  on http://mykitch3n.blogspot.com. Instead of putting maple syrup on her stack, this blogger used honey. Very creative. Using Matcha in recipes is not unusual in Japan. Here’s a traditional pound cake recipe.

They make matcha macahicto at our favourite japanese restaurant up our street. I guess it would be possible to make it an iced macahicto. They serve it with green tea cake I think it is basically some plain cake recipe with matcha powder or strongly brewed matcha stirred into the cake mix. Has anybody made that kind of cake? Its yummy and moist.
