A highly treasured tea in China, Dragonwell (Long Jing) was originally thought to be too special for common use and was reserved for the Emperor and other elite government officials.
Although now it is widely available outside of China, it is still considered a premium tea. To this day, Dragonwell is produced in small quantities, picked by hand, and carefully pan-fried in special woks which produces its rich taste.
When the Dragonwell is finished, typically within the same day it is picked, there may only be 30 pounds for the entire harvest. By comparison, most teas are several hundred pounds each season.
Any merchant interested in buying this tea must make a special trip to the mountains where the tea is grown and buy directly from the tea farmers.
Because this is the First Flush (first harvest, when the leaves are still young) of the year, our Dragonwell is exceptionally high in antioxidants which is widely recognized to prevent cancer along with boosting immunity.
If you live near one of our stores, we encourage you to experience the beauty and fragrance of this exceptional tea for yourself. We offer free tastings upon request and sell fresh Dragonwell by the ounce.
